Similar to the "tattoo ignorance" thread, but on a lighter note: what are the things people have said about your tattoos that made you laugh, or wonder if they were a) serious, b) aliens from a distant planet or c) just plain stupid?

I get the "is that real?" question a lot. Occasionally I have to rub my arm so that people believe it's really real. I'd say that's your run of the mill a).

But what was between b) and c) was this: "I didn't know tattoos could be done in color!" from a girl younger than me. WTF? Where have you been in the last decade?

A clear c): "That one didn't come from [name of German youth magazine], did it?". I guess he was trying to be clever. I said "Actually, I draw this on every day." :D

Most times though, I am surprisingly patient with people asking me these questions, touching my arm with or without asking, or, as it happened to me while I was passing a butcher shop in Old Town Nice (France) just recently, literally getting dragged inside the shop and shown around to coworkers and customers. That was actually pretty funny :D.

Holy crap no kidding! That's pretty funny....especially with Kat VonD having her face plastered everywhere!

Easily one of the more asinine remarks I hear from people when they see my tattoos has got to be: "You have tattoos." [Gee, how observant! How brilliant!]

Occasionally, some folks are rude enough to stand there and point at my tattoos, not saying anything, but wildly gesticulating.

Whenever I've gotten the "You have a tattoo!" comment, I always respond (with a straight face, if I can manage it), "No, it's an oddly-shaped birthmark."

iv now had my tattoo for 5 years or so now and i still have my family give me dirty looks and they all make some kind of comment the best being "so are you a criminal! why would you do that if your not a criminal?" to witch i reply yes now were did you park your car. they get the point, till the next time they see it. than it starts all over again.

After a Christmas party a friend of the family drunkenly interrogated me for nearly 45 minutes about "why did you do that to yourself?!" He just couldn't understand why I, a woman, would want to have tattoos. This man is in the military, so I am sure mine are not the first tattoos he has seen, woman or not. I'd call this a combination of b and c.
I live in a small town area, so I also get a lot of negative feedback from men. No dates for me once they see the tatts. Their reactions mostly fall into the a and c categories.
I've enjoyed reading this thread. Lots of interesting stories and some great comeback responses!

recently when i wore a short sleeve blouse to work, an older female coworker said to me "i didn't know you had that many tattoos! (i knew she didn't like them because she makes it so obvious) so i said "yeh, aren't they beautiful!" so she says, "No, they're very ugly!, and you know you're going to hell for marking up your body like that". So I smiled and walking away but in the same room. When she starts quoting scripture telling me about the sins against changing what was god given and blah blah blah, I turned around and said, "so what does the bible say about all of that fake hair you have attached to your head, huh?" "is that cool? or cool because you want it to be!"... of course by then she started yelling telling me to shut up and not start with her... wtf???

Every once in a while a random guy in the locker room at my gym will ask me what my tattoo is of. This is consistently one of the older retired guys (60+).

It cracks me up because my tattoo is so obviously a giant fish. I could understand asking "why is the water black", "what kind of flowers are those", or even "what kind of fish is that". However nobody ever asks me any of those questions. Instead about once a month someone asks "what is that tattoo of" in a totally not mean or disrespectful way.

It always cracks me up. I suspect it is just them trying to break the ice so that they can look at my back tattoo without creeping me out.

Haha that's funny.....I had a lady at the gym, obviously fascinated by my tattoos, try to turn my giant Protea (flower on my arm) into a fish. Uh, no, it's a flower. "Well it COULD be a fish..." OK lady, give it a rest. It's a PHUCKING flower, mmmk?

lol one time a teacher saw my backpiece because i had showed it to a friend in class. She called me to her desk and asked me to show her It was the funniest thing because when i did the class broke out in laughter because of the face she had put. After i showed her she started asking me a million questions. She even asked for a picture.
