I'm just joining the group to pick up on the discussion, so I hope that things worked out for the both of you. My partner and I have been together 9.5 years and we live in TN. There are no legal protections here that we do not pay an arm and leg for... We have jumped through many hoops to protect one another from our family's malice should something happen to one of us, but I do not want to marry him. The religious right can keep their nasty institution just as it is. Marriage stands for nothing in today's society except for it's nasty, costly ending. I think everyone should have a right to civil unions, and if a straight couple or gay couple wish to get married in a church that will recognize their holy union, then so be it... BUT, they should still be required to register that union with the municipality in which they live. I hope the two of you were able to make it happen, if indeed the two of you came to that conclusion. Peace, Love, and Be well...

We did finally get married Oct. 25th 2008. I really thought that no on 8 might pass but I wasn't that surprized when it didn't... I do have that little piece of paper that they can't take away. Someday my hope is that we all can live in piece and that people mind there own bussiness. Until then we will have to be satisfied irritating the bigots... Take care!

My gf and I want to get married too. We are hoping it will be legal in Australia soon. I want people to take our marriage seriously when it comes to that.
