I don't know how I'm going to wait 5 weeks though. It'll be so good to finally have my back finished. I decided on a pipevine swallowtail for my 9th butterfly and he's going to draw on my second branch by hand. I already have my lotion and a new bottle of soap..... guess I'll have to keep working those extra shifts to help time pass faster (and give me extra money to pay for it).
I'm so excited!! Continue

Rick Ross is featured on last month's XXL magazine and from the look of things he has a good amount of coverage.
Matter of fact he let us know with lyrics like:

I might have to go to the corner bodega and get an outside opinion because the view from this side of the mirror hasn't convinced me just yet.
This has been a week of pure and unadulterated insanity. At first I was simply expecting a nocturnal schedule for a few days, but I've actually doubled my week at this point. When you sleep for four hours at a stretch every 12 hours, you wind up with two Tuesdays, a handful of Wednesdays and Thursday (was that yesterday?) becomes a national holida… Continue
There is nothing better than hanging with a group of women that have known you since you were thirteen, who know your crazy secrets and mock you for them to keep you from regressing, but got ya back despite it all. Ladies who command board rooms, laboratories and government offices in high heels and are equally commanding at the bar and dance floor. Ladies who are lovely, friendly, smiling but can be the foulest mouthed bitches should you cross them. They can quote Rimbaud and Foxy Brown in one… Continue
An anorexic looks at themselves and sees only the fat and the ugly.
No I don't feel that way, but when I look at myself in the mirror I do see all the open spaces. Others who look at me see only covered space. I guess tattoos are definitely an acquired taste because most of my family accost me with statements like "Please don't get any more", or "You know your limiting yourself", while my father just says "Thats my crazy son"
It kind of makes me think when will it be enough. I've always been l… Continue
I probably should preface this with some kind of disclaimer along the lines of, "I'm sorry if you, a friend or a family member are an employee of a police department..." but fuck that. I can count the number of good cops I've encountered in my lifetime on two fingers and, trust me, I've had my fair share of run-ins with the law.

It's shortly after 10am this morning and my bass player, Ryan, and I are passing through Westchester, NY, en route to Bridgeport, CT. As I'm exiting… Continue

I love watching movies. All genres - doesn't matter. I've always wanted to review movies, but never have. So today I'll start, using Inked as my forum.
Hopefully you'll like what I have to say. I've never enjoyed what critics have to say, so I will be the voice of the common man (or woman). I'll also try to liken the movie to other titles, so if you've seen one, maybe you'll check out the other.
Last night I watched "The Ruins." I'll admit, I was hesitant to give it a try. I thought it was goi… Continue
Okay...so I am completely obsessed with Synyster Gates' guitar solo in Avenged Sevenfold's "Afterlife." Yesterday when I was having a completely crap day, I just listened to that song over and over again. The guitar solo lodged itself into my brain and looped on repeat.
I saw a live video of them performing "Afterlife" the other day. I love the look on Synyster Gates' face...it's this look of absolute love and peace within the music. I can relate to that...and I love to see that in musicians. Continue

because today was not an easy day - i'm not looking to bitch and moan to a group populated mainly by strangers, but I need to clear my head a little bit and run through the bullet-points before the ambien kicks in...

Immortal Ink is no more!
The location at:
12776 Brookhurst St
Garden Grove, CA, 92840
The shop went under new management in March 2008 and changed its name to "A-Town Tattoo".
The location has gone through a complete 180 from a hole in the wall with a questionable reputation to a welcoming family-friendly island influenced environment. They have a variety of artists capable for all your tattoo and piercing needs.
The shop has yet to have its grand opening, but they are open for business. the… Continue

I completed phase one of my first tattoo - the outline of my USMC Third Eye was completed, yesterday July 6, 2008 - on August 2, 2008 I go in for the coloring. I am so excited - this tattoo was inspired by my time in the Marine Corps from 1992 -2000, the Music of Tool (www.toolband.c… Continue
it's entirely work-safe, trust me. it's the recon photo from when a very expensive doctor snaked a long tube through my right sinus, down my throat and asked me to go "EEEEEEEEEE" in falsetto - all the while trying to override my inherent (and barbarically violent) gag-reflex.
the verdict? acid reflux, swollen chords, asymmetry in the movement of the right chord and the potential existence of a… Continue
I was a bit surprised (in a good way) to see so many comments about my bookworm tattoo. It's one of the (comparatively) earlier tattoos I've gotten, back in the days when I never DREAMED that I'd ever go below the elbow.
Purely coincidentally, I decided to put part of the long weekend to good use and paid a visit to Office Max yesterday to get some organizing boxes. I got an ultra-portable Rubbermaid-type file boxes with a lid, and another Rubbermaid-type thing with 3 see-through plastic drawer… Continue

I mentioned in my brief intro to this page that I have over 260 hours of ink. The interesting part about that is that since there is so much going on, and some of it is in areas I don't generally see in the mirror (back of thigh, back of upper arm) that I generally see it but don't really focus on it all the time.
Every now and then, though, I'll catch a glimpse of one specific piece and look - REALLY look - and rediscover that particular tattoo, so to speak. A case in point - when I set up thi… Continue

I'm one of those lazy asses who drop their laundry off and pay someone else to do it. Consequently, I'm friendly with the ladies who work there. There's one particular woman whose daughter recently turned 'legal' (I think she's 19 now).
So, I go to pick up my laundry this afternoon. As I'm paying, this lady says 'oh, since you're the tattoo expert (????) I want to ask you something'. Turns out her daughter had gotten a tattoo on her inner… Continue

There's this great misconception that people who have tattoos or who tattoo others are, well, cool. I believe the music playlist that Dan and I did for IMEEM, and that Tori posted to Needled will definitively dispel such a myth.

Bear with me, folks; I'm still in the process of setting up this page. I do have pictures of just about all of my tattoos, but after having heard horror stories of peoples' artwork getting snatched off the internet and plagiarized onto someone else, I'm going to be very selective about which pictures I do post. The pieces I have which are traditional Sailor Jerry designs, for instance, I'd have no problem posting - those are sort of iconic images and I know I'm far from the only person to… Continue

I'm debating on whether or not to go to my 10 year high school reunion. I was an awkward high school student and am not sure how I feel about going. It would be nice to see some people but others I could do without. Also, I wish I had both sleeves finished. I think I would feel more comfortable (as odd as that sounds). Continue
Well, got my knee surgery last week. I'm still here. Knee is better and I can get around. I guess you can say I had a scary moment, but I was sleeping so I didn't know.
They were almost done with the surgery and I guess my o2 stats were low so they had to run a tube into my lungs and fill them up (or something like that). My throat is sooooo sore. It wasn't that serious, but they came out and told my wife they ran into a problem and there was some fluid in my lungs and they would give her an up… Continue

Thought I would share some poems I've written...here's just a few:
Junkie Girl
Those words you said to me
Two days before the new year dawned
Were like a drug...
And I, your junkie girl,
Needed a fix.
You knew just where to find my vein,
Tapped it twice with the phrase-
"I'm no good without you";
Slid the needle beneath my skin with
"Baby, I'll do anything to get you back."
And me, being your junkie girl,
Tipped back my head onto your pillows
And gave kisses for consent.
The sweet poison rushe… Continue

Had to delete my last post. My publisher asked me to keep my new book project a secret. Oops! :)
I was just looking at my schedule and had to share because if I ever do burnout, start talking to myself and become even more insane that I already am, you'll understand why. [Of course this list does not include doing Needled posts and legal work, which has to be done in between it all. Oh, and giving proper attention to my man.]

obviously, my voice is my living in addition to being my passion.
i knew i was entering dangerous waters beneath ominous thunderheads when i lost my falsetto sometime last week. it's generally a surefire sign that your vocal chords are feeling like Tina Turner in '71 after a bad show - you know you're gonna get hit with something heavy.

One of my mom's friends is in a coma. She had cardiac arrest at some point last night and the long length of time in the state has led to irreversible brain damage. She beat breast cancer...has been in remission for five years. She had no history of heart problems. She was 49 years old and one of the kindest women my mom has ever known. This is slim to no hope of her ever coming out of the coma.
When my mom emailed me about it, she cynically said "I guess its true that the good die young. Bush,… Continue

When he sees that he can't save me, will that be too much? Nightmare girl...I wanted to have good dreams for him. Not even for me...I'm used to waking up with my… Continue

I just wrote a Needled post on the Tattoo Tarot, which my hubs contributed artwork for, and I cant say enough how freakin awesome this tarot set is. Last week I went to "The Shop" (the shop I go to i.e. Spotlight Tattoo ), to shake down Steve (Tattoo Artist) who will be doing a chest panel on me later this month.

Alright folks, we’re bringing it back. This time we’ve decided to celebrate the 4th of July Holiday by throwing our biggest “Tribute to Tradition” event ever! Prices range from $50 to $10… Continue
Last April I was asked by my friend Marilyn, piercer and co-owner of the tattoo shop I frequent, to help her piercing apprentice, Dominic, test out for his license. It was a really great experience and he said he felt very at ease using me as his model for the exam. So, when Ron, my tattoo artist, needed a viable test subject to get his Kansas license, I was more than pleased that they asked me to be "the one." (Ron has been tattooing for over 15 years but Kansas licensing laws are pretty strict… Continue
That's the motto in the Garber household (we love good small tattoos, too, but we seem to just dive right in with our first pieces). I had a very good first sitting for my first tattoo today. Russ was great and the shop had such a laid-back atmosphere.

Well, I'm going in tomorrow to have surgery on my knee tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed. Got to be there at 6:30, and surgery starts at 8:00. It's not a huge surgery, and I'll be home later that day. I've got some loose/broken cartilage in my knee that's getting removed.
I wish I had a cool story for the injury. Or at least make up a good one. I hurt my knee a few years ago after a rugby game. That's right - the post-party. I've played rugby for years and never really gotten injuried. Except… Continue

Here are mine in no particular order:
1. Smashing Pumpkins - "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness" This came out when I was in middle school and forming my musical taste. My freshman year of high school this was the album I clung to as I transitioned. I would walk the halls singing "Bullet with Butterfly Wings" at the top of my lungs and listen to "Here is No Why" on repeat for hours.
2. Operation Ivy's "Operation Ivy" I discovered this in '97 when I was dating the bass player of a…Continue
My son is about to turn 6 months old. I've been trying to think of a tattoo for him. Since he was born in January, my wife and I were thinking about getting Capricorn tattoos. We would have our artists use similar designs and they could add their own style to it. We have good artists (atomic tattoo in Austin) and they have different styles. We would put them in different spots too.
Do you think the Zodiac tattoos are a little too cliché? The design has a lot of possibilities, and it would certa… Continue
Well, its less than 48 hours until I get my first ink from Russ Abbott. I called the shop this afternoon to confirm my appointment (Russ and his wife just welcomed a new baby boy into their family, so I thought it might get pushed back).

And I'm trying to think of a tattoo to honor my son. He is almost 6 months old (wow - seems like yesterday I was driving 25 mph on the highway coming home from the hospital!) Haven't thought of anything yet... but I'll get it when I… Continue
New poem entitled "Apocalypse Kisses" All rights are mine except for the line I used from the Brenda Lee hit "Fever".
Watch the sky explode with me
And make love to me in the ashes -
The world is ending tonight
But we have this moment to live forever.
Stand with me in the fire -
It will be a lovely way to burn -
Watch the world end around us
As we fall into oblivion
With an apocalyptic kiss.
Tonight is all we have,
So let's make it something we'll never forget -
Kiss me one more time
As the ash… Continue

I'm tracking the latest Dogs of Winter album right now. For three sleepless days, I've been drinking, chain-smoking and playing guitar in a kilt. For me the best HC band ever is Amen. Casey Chaos is just Casey. Henry Rollins said that if he could be in a one band, Amen would be it.
As I have gotten older and more stable, I have started to see more and more the side of other peoples ways, the beat the live to. Amen is still one of the only bands out there that matter. Re… Continue
