Just for the fuck of it, lets do all our dream tattoo shops. 6 guys tops in the shop. You can try to be versatile or just fuck it and stick to one style. Who cares. If you came up with a name you get extra gayness points. What it looks like, good, even gayer.
Just bumped into this guy. Looks ok. Ill give him a change.
I think it would be a good solid shop. Couple of youngers guys in there so they can be the future big names and then there is big names. But not really any "rock stars". I just feel they would work well together.
My dream shop would have a one-Theo maximum, but I guess you do things differently in Finland. :)
I am very fortunate to live in San Francisco because I have access to so many great artists in a 50-mile radius. And the rest that I want work from usually visit my city or come to the San Jose tattoo convention every October.
And Pyrrhus, I bumped into Grime yesterday (at his shop, just under a mile from my house). Of course, his geographical proximity does nothing for his 3-year wait list, but it was nice to pop in and buy a book from him.
To me San Fran is this dreamland of sort. Place where you could make a pilgrimige to. I allways think that people are just amazingly lucky when they say they live there. If there is one city I would like to go to, it is San Francisco.
Cool that you got to meet Grime. What book did you get?
I actually had a dream last night about Grime. We were just hanging in his apartment where he lived with his family. He showed me all the tattoos he has himself and I had to guess who has done them. One tattoo had a guy who hold an umbrella and there was japanese style blue smoke around him. He was really nice, kind and warm person. Those kinda dreams are weird because after you kinda miss that person.
I wholeheartedly agree with you in that I feel amazingly lucky to live here. I'm getting tattooed by Horitomo *and* Scott Sylvia next month and my wife is getting work from Jeff Rassier and maybe Jamie Ruth in the same time frame.
>What book did you get?<<br />
I was picking up a copy of the new book Horitaka published on behalf of Horiyoshi III's Yokohama tattoo museum. It's called Beauty and Violence: Horichiyo, Ambassador of the Japanese Tattoo. Fascinating stuff!
The book is about tattoo master Horichiyo, who tattooed England's crown prince and some of America and Europe's most famous folks in the 1920s and 1930s. It's hardcover and is mostly filled with his highly detailed drawings--amazing stuff! It also tells the fascinating story of his life and death via news stories of the day. It should be available through www.horitaka.com soon. Here's the cover:
I think that my dream tattoo shop would probably change based on what artists I want to get tattooed by. For right now I think it would be good to have a group of artists who can do a little of everything I like!
So.....
Muriel -great and original vintage style. Plus you gotta have a woman in there! Representing!! hehe www.zaotattoo.com
Jess- wondering japanese style. Lots of texture, great flow. Just amazing work www.mytats.com
Carson Hill - rounds off the group of artists with biomech and great style...plus a bit of tattoo innovation with his machines. www.carsonhilltattoos.com
I think all of these artist's are wonderful and doing a great job furthering the art of tattooing!
Paolo Acuna (www.divinitytattoo.com)
I love this guy, does beautiful, soft painterly tattoos. Also he is just great!
Gabriel Cece (www.gabrielcece.com)
So much fun, and a great artist! Can take any idea you have and make it happen in a style that is all his own.
Juan Salgado (www.myspace.com/juansalgado)
Amazing colors, and style.
Ed Perdomo (www.edtattoos.com)
Fun tattoos, great color, and style.
Michele Wortman (www.hyperspacestudios.com)
Beautiful person! Amazingly feminine tattoos that compliment the body unlike any others I have seen!
Claire Reid (www.myspace.com/fleurink )
Again, great painterly style, really captures emotion.
This was really hard. Like Dana said I think it would change based on who I wanted to be tattooed by! We would have lots of guest spots.
You always seem to open my eyes to new great artists! I love Claire Reid's work...great stuff! Why do all the really great ones live so far from me!! :)
My dream shop would contain capable artists ( and I don't care to go into details like names) that have no waiting lists! What good is a dream team if you have to wait up to 3 years,,,,
