I have No Problem doing this. I will get it out, today, sometime. It's very hard for people to change their narrow minded views, especially if they have "little" power.
I have VERY strong opinions on how LOCAL government strives to take away our rights. This is a very good example. They never know what the "other" hand is doing. It's really sad that this even an option for this board.
I was denied a conditional use permit by the Currituck County Board of Adjustment. I feel that I and another fellow shopowner have been wronged by this obviously predujudcial unelected board. Recently within the past two days one of the members of this board has gone on record stating that he believed that the business was sexually oriented in nature, and that this and only this was his reason for denial. I'd also like to add that this man is also the Currituck County Arts Council President whom is according to their website is supposed to support and promote any local art related event, business, etc. and he is also the leader of the local democratic party. You can find the whole story on www.dailyadvance.com Also I might need to inform you that we Wolf's Tattoo and Dreamcatcher Tattoo are opening our doors regardless of their desicion and won't open our doors to the public until all other permits, i.e. health department permits for tattooing and thier inspection are secured and performed. It also needs to be said that Tattooing was removed from the sexual oriented portion (Section 808) of Currituck's Unified Development Ordinance last month by the elected Board of Commisioners thanks to the efforts of myself, my partner William Wolf, Steve Cannady of Dreamcatcher Tattoo and his daughter, Nikki. SO, legally speaking and, I'm no lawyer but I am a man with a lot of common sense, wouldn't this action by the Board of Adjustment be prejudicial and slanderous? I am in the art business not the arousal business my clients are collectors of art, not exhibitionists out for public display for the world to see. I told the board when this question was raised in the meeting that all tattoos or piercing that maybe viewed as adult would be done behind curtains or partitions not in the view of passers by. The example that I proposed for this issue was when a person goes to a doctor and he or she performs a breast exam, or proctology exam it is done in a professional nature between the person and their doctor is that viewed as sexual? NO nor is at least by this county waxing done to the intamate areas for cosmetic reasons or tanning beds. Yet all of these examples involve nakedness behind closed doors in local area business and they are viewed as being "in harmony" with their surroundings. Also I don't believe I mentioned in my previous correspondence, NOT ONE MEMBER OF THE PUBLIC STOOD AND OPPOSED ME OR MR. CANNADY IN THIS PUBLIC MEETING. I'm not quite sure what the county considers "harmony" but I believe peace and lack of public outcry would pretty much define it.
According to Saturdays VA Pilot County Manager Dan Scanlon Plans to file court orders to stop both Mr. Canady and myself.
